Fancy a chat?

We're driving all day and there are only so many books to read, puzzles to build, card games to play, snacks to eat, songs to sing, jokes to tell and quite times to have.

Since I've been off-grid so much lately I thought it would be fun to chat a little with you while I have a
Phone signal and a little time.... you know, inbetween all I mentioned above. :)

If you just want to say hi or have a question you want to ask... I'll be around most of the day to answer in the comments.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

the real deal

As I sit down to write this tonight, from our little bedroom in our new {to us} rv. I can't help but grin. I am so excited to begin this journey with my family and thrilled to be able to share it with you along the way. We are thrilled that you are sharing our excitment and appreciate every single word of encouragement and kindness.

The intention of my last post was to share with you this wonderful journey our family is embarking on and reach out to any of you that might be interested in a photography session along the way. Seemed simple enough, but even simple things can become confusing sometimes.

So now it's time to straighten out this confusion and satisfy your curiosity. {grin}

Q: Does your husband have a job? Is he going to work while you're on the road?

A: My incredibly hard-working husband most defiantly does have a job. In fact he has 3 very real, very important jobs. These are key roles in providing for our family and extended family. Myself and the kids are very fortune that his hard work has enabled us to take this trip and that there is a break in the farm work so we can enjoy this adventure as a family.

Q: How can you afford this with your recent money trouble.

A: I personally do not consider nearly 2 years ago recent. It is quite simple though, we have been working hard and rebuilding our life... financially and emotionally.

The money that you generously gave to our family in the fall of 2009 allowed us to travel home, turn on our utilities, and provided part of our expenses in traveling back to the farm with our belongings. We are still, to this day, very grateful for what you did for our family.

Q: Why are you trying to copy another blogger who is doing this.

A: If you have been here for a while you might remember reading quite some time ago {before this blogger ever talked about any RV traveling idea} I wrote about the dream of traveling around the country in an RV or vintage bus with my family, I also shared that I would love to use my God given talents to provide for my family. Very simply not copying, just living out our dreams in God's perfect timing. Photographers that travel is not a new idea... many photographers offer photo sessions in area's other than their home town. We are simply combining 2 dreams into an awesome one!

Q: How can you afford the fuel?

A: I am so excited to share this with you... our awesome diesel semi will be running on veggie oil. That's right... used fry oil. Not only are we reusing something that is usually considered waste, and benefiting the businesses we retrieve it from, it's also free! The ability to significantly lower our fuel expenses has a big part in enabling us to take these trips. We'll be sharing a lot more about this very soon!

Q: Are you already on your trip?

A: Although we are on a trip right now, this is not our big trip. We took the rv on a test run to family camp this week. We will not be leaving for our big trip until mid-July.

Q: Are you leaving the farm and doing this full time?

A: We love the farm life way too much to leave it behind. Country living is wonderful for raising a family and being blessed with the occupational and school flexibility to travel the United States is no less than amazing. The experiences these trips will offer our family have value far beyond money.

I am so happy to have recieved your encourgement and to know of those that are interested in a photo session or just meeting. I am looking forward to putting this trip together and having the opportunity to share my photography with you. Continuing to build friendships with so many wonderful people from all over the country is such an amazing blessing.

if you are interested in a photo session please contact me at 4littlemenandgirlytwins @ gmail {dot} com

You asked it!

there are so many questions asked

...and unfortunately very few answered

I wish I had enough time to answer them all...

I thought I would answer a few here

...and then open the comments up to any new questions.

i'll try to answer them in the comments

or put them into a new post...

Q: Are you still nursing the twins?

A: Yes, we are still nursing and it is not looking like we will be done for a little while. The girls love to nurse {at the same time} and have formed quite a bond together and with me. More so than the boys... it's absolutely adorable! They usually nurse 4-6 times a day. I am cherishing this time as I know it is fleeting. I have seen some signs that they will start self weaning within the next 6 months... most likely.

Q: Why do you go to church on Saturday?

A: Well quite simply because the church we attend believes that Saturday is the true 7th day and the day God intended for us to keep holy. And I do agree. However I will say... there is no wrong day to worship God, but everyday is the wrong day to worship the devil.

Q: Why did you move?

A: Because that was God's plan. I would like to go back and start our "story" from the beginning... when I have time! I do believe it is something God would like me to share with you... and hopefully bless many of you along the way.

Q: Are you having more kids?

A: hot question of the last 9 years! Ha! At this time no, we do not feel that God is leading us to have more children. Will we? I honestly don't know. Right now we are happy to be our little family of 8.

Q: How is homeschool going?

A: great! it's an adventure like I never could have imagined. We are about half way through our "school" year and going strong. We will finish up this summer and jump into another year... but I will be most likely using another curriculum. We are using My Fathers World right now and do love it, but I feel like there are other options that better fit our family.

Q: What camera do you use?

A: I shoot with a canon 20D... it's old but works!

okay.... now ask away! {grin}

You asked it!

Hard to believe I am STILL not done answering your questions.
Okay, it's not really that hard to believe considering how long it takes me to get anything done! {grin}

So here we go...
a few more of your questions, answered!

Q: can you tell if your girls might be mirror-image twins or not?

A: I don't think so.... but we're not 100% sure. We thought their hair was parting in different directions but it didn't stay like that.

Q: You seem to be a supermom to me... Is your house ever messy? Are you ever behind with dishes? or laundry? or clutter?

A: Messy... YES
overflowing dishes... YES
piles and piles of laundry.... YES
clutter... YES

and that's OKAY! We {as in all of us} try to keep the house picked up and our {own} spaces neat and organized. But with all the motion going on in a house of eight it is IMPOSSIBLE to have to completely picked up all the time.

Q: How do you keep your energy up? Is it from your diet? And, if you do need a little extra push, what do you eat/drink/do?

A: Honestly, I am amazed that I DO have any energy left sometimes. Especially with my obvious lack of sleep! I KNOW -- because I can tell a difference when I don't eat well and take my vitamins -- that my diet DOES keep me going. And not just going but feeling GOOD.

When I am feeling run down I will go get a big glass of luke warm water, a handful of nuts and sit down for a few minutes. Nuts and fruit are great "pick me ups"... apples and peanut butter, banana and peanut butter or trail mix {sometimes with chocolate chips}

Q: I was wondering if your parents raised you similarly to how you are raising your kids (natural, no vaccines, etc)? If not, how do they feel about your lifestyle choices?

A: Ummmm... not really. I remember eating lucky charms, canned Campbell vegetable soup, hydrogenated peanut butter, cow milk, bagels and cream cheese, boxed foods, ect. We didn't eat a lot of junk food but it was definitely SAD {standard American diet}.

During my adolescent years my parents started becoming increasingly interested in healthier eating. I was already vegetarian and interested in a healthier lifestyle.

My parents are very supportive of the choices Paul and I make for our family. I think they would agree with me when I say they've learned quite a bit from me and have made changes in their own eating and lifestyle that has been very beneficial for them. I know my mom has said before that she wishes she had known what I know now about vaccines because she would have made different choices for me and my brothers. The same with soy, msg & dairy.

I hope my time spent learning has benefited more than just myself and my family... I think it has!

Whew! Only a few more to go!

More farm questions answered... better late than never! {grin}

If you missed the first set of "you asked it... farm edition" you can check them out here!

Q: are you able to keep up with your usual diet for the family at the farm?

A: Yes & No! I cook most of our meals {we eat with Grandma & Grandpa probably twice a week} so I have been making our usual meals. However there have been many differences....

such as:
::there is pop and juice that is tempting the boys. We let them have juice every few days and they have split a few orange pops. No caffeine though.

::Grandma buys cookies, candy, granola bars {not the good kind} and she likes to treat the boys. Which is fine... they are loving it and it's not permanent!

::They don't pay attention to ingredients for the most part so lots of foods have corn syrup, msg, yeast extract, white flour, sugar, artificial flavors, ect. You know... the typical things we try to avoid. {grin}

::Grandma does cook with soy, even though she's been so sweet to try to limit that. It's just her that eats soy, Grandpa doesn't eat it.

::and oh yes, there is lots of {for us} cheese. And I'm eating too much of it! {grin}
although as of a few days ago I have decided to cut it out again because I can tell we're all not feeling as well.

It is definitely different from home but with a touch of the usual!

Q: do you have your usual grocery and health-food access?

A: NO! And what a bummer it is... there is a local grocery store {with one isle of over priced "natural food} and a super Walmart that has no organic canned beans, poor produce section with NO organic, very limited natural foods & higher prices. OY!

We're thinking about trying to find a place to order bulk non-perishable food online and have it delivered. Know of a good place??

Q:what are your kiddos enjoying about farm life?

A: I think they really are having a great time! It's been an adjustment in many ways but everyone seems to be really enjoying themselves. We've seen a positive attitude and more family bonding... just what we were looking for!

The boys have been reading a TON, riding their scooters in the shop, helping around the farm, driving tractors, trucks, gators, catching turtles, frogs, bugs, and just hanging around.

We're looking forward to starting school within the next few weeks too!

Q:are you near any town, city, or are you truly in the middle of nowhere? :-)

A: Yes and No! Right now, as I sit in the living room, we are in the middle of nowhere. We are about 15-20 minutes {depending on how fast you drive on gravel roads} to the little town with a post office, grain elevator and church. Then you can get on the interstate and drive another 25-35 minutes {again depending on how fast you drive {70-90mph}} to get into the main town where there is a super walmart, grocery store, subway, gas stations, library, ect.

Q: where do you get internet access?

A: Good question! {grin} On Paul's phone... he has somehow set his phone up as an internet server {genius!} and we have internet on the computer and laptop as long as the phone is in the house. Although we don't leave it on, he takes his phone with him when he's out working... or he'll forward his calls to Grayson's phone if I beg him to let me use it while the girls nap. {grin}

Q: do you find it ironic that you are farming soybeans but are so anti soy? no judging here, just wondering.

A: Maybe slightly... but not really! Soy is used for SO MUCH more than food production. It can be used for adhesives, coatings and printing inks, lubricants, plastics and fuel. I don't hate soy... I just don't believe it is healthy for us to eat!

{if you're a new reader and wondering why we don't eat soy you can read about it HERE}

And plus, it's not our farm! And not my place to judge just because it's not what I would choose. God loves us all! {grin}

You Asked it! Part 5

Did you think I forgot about the rest of your questions? Nope! Just haven't had a chance to get back to them until now.

if you're new and want to catch up on the rest of the "you asked it" series you can check them out here.

So here you go!

Q: I tried to do what you suggested to make my pictures larger but it doesn't work, what am I doing wrong?

A: It seems that quite a few of you were having trouble following my directions -- yeah -- I might not be good at explaining html code. But I'll try again! {grin}

here is exactly what I do...
upload my images from picasa
save for draft
open up post from my dashboard
go to "edit html"
look for this...

To change the size of your picture replace the s400 with s800 or s576

To make your pictures "unclickable" erase the html code highlighted in orange.

I hope that helps!

Q:
How often do you go to the grocery store? On average how much do you spend each trip? Do you go to One store, or how many? Do you take all or any of your children with you?

A: We go to the regular store weekly and spend around $150. We also go to Trader Joes 5-6 weeks and spend $200-$300. It is VERY rare to go to the store without any children.... I usually have at least 3 and sometimes all 6. We like to go to the grocery store as a family a lot... all 8 of us.

You can read about one of our crazy grocery store adventures HERE.

Q: Since you have four boys yourself, how do you feel about circomcision? I know, the spelling is wrong. This is something I feel very strongly about and, because you seem to be on the natural side of life, I am hoping you will answer you are against it.

A: Well.... all 4 of our boys are circumcised. If I could go back and do it all over again I would NOT have had any of our boys circumcised. I was young when I had our first son and I thought it HAD to be done. It broke my heart... I remember crying before, during and after it was done. When our 2nd son was born I again didn't WANT to do it but felt that we needed to because I didn't want our kids to be different in that way. Little did I know we would end up having FOUR boys. In my opinion it is completely unnecessary and holds no significant value. It is purely visual at this point. {and my pedi agrees}

Q: I know you had mentioned you use the ecostore for the alternative bleach, but what do you use for your laundry detergent? what do you use for your dishes? Do you use a dishwasher or wash by hand? what do you use to dust, clean your floors, and counter tops?

A: I have 2 favorite laundry detergents... Charlies Soap and Eco Store. I used to make my own detergent but after a while I felt that it was really fading my darks so I searched for alternatives that were still natural. I would LOVE to try soap nuts sometime.

As for dishes.... I've switched around and used a few natural soaps. I don't have any favorites. At home I have a dishwasher... but here on the farm we wash by hand! Anyone have any tips for me??? {grin}

Dusting? What is that? {grin} I use a steam cleaner on my tile floors so no cleaning solution there. For general cleaning I use water and vinegar mix. And for a little extra boost I use baking soda. I also use Charlies All purpose Soap and love it for really dirty cleaning!

Q: How old do you ween the baby from breastfeeding?

A: All of my babies have self weened around 18-20 months. It has always been very easy and natural. I think the fact that I am usually pregnant at that time plays into the timing as well. I would nurse longer... it if happened that way.

Q: I was wondering what kind if any make up do you use?

A: I wear mineral makeup {foundation and eye shadow} and regular ole' mascara. Although, as soon as I'm out I am going to try a new sugar based mascara that a friend recommended. I'll let you know when I get it... I forget the name she uses. Anyone else use this kind?

I don't wear a lot of make-up but I do like to put on mineral foundation everyday to protect my skin. I'm currently using ELF because it's cheap! :)

Q: What kind of bathing soaps and lotions do you use on your children?

A: We don't use kid specific soaps or lotions. We LOVE tea tree oil & goats milk soaps. Both of which we find at trader joes.

As for lotion- Traumeel. The BEST lotion you will EVER use. It can be a bit pricey but SOOOO worth it and you only need a very small amount. It's for so much more than dry skin, it heels your skin and tissue all around the area you apply it to. I used it daily on my chest after the accident and still do use it quite often.

For really dry skin we use coconut oil or vitamin E oil... we try to stay as pure as possible with lotions. Remember your skin is your LARGEST organ and it ABSORBS everything you put on it.

Q: can you give us a sample menu plan for the day (or even week?)? Where do you get your recipes from?

A: You can check out all the recipes I've posted here. I've shared meal plans, grocery lists and more.

I get my recipes from EVERYWHERE. Cook books, friends, family, my head, whole foods.com, all recipes.com.

Q: Do you do devotions? With your family? How do you find time to spend one-on-one with the Lord?

A: We do! We love to sit down and do Bible stories and devotionals with the kids after dinner. We have a few books that we use but one of our favorites is- Bible Teaching for kids.
They have awesome studies that you can do with your whole family. There is a verse to read, a story and then they have study questions to answer after you're done. We've had a lot of fun on their site- you can search by topic too so if you're looking for something in particular to talk about with your kids it's easy to find.

As for me, I am bad about doing my own bible studies- I read books- ones that don't require homework. {Grin} My favorite right now are 'Sacred marriage' and 'Value driven life'. I DO spend one-on-one time with the Lord every night. That is our time. I usually lay in bed and pray - talk to God - for 30-45 minutes before I fall asleep. I like to say God tucks me in and puts me to sleep every night because I usually fall asleep praying. {grin}

Q: Do you ever feel that your life and time on the Internet is detracting too much from the life and time spent off it?

A: Honestly, No! Not usually.... I've had my moments in time when my blog becomes more time consuming than it should be. But I try very hard to keep balance. The Internet can suck you in if you let it... but it can be a great outlet and tool if you use it wisely.

Some tips that work for me-
1. I try to only be online blogging, reading, ect. when the kids are asleep or out of the house. With the occasional blogging with them or getting online to do the bible studies ect.

I do stop by the computer to check my email through the day- but I like to keep my chair away from the desk so I am not tempted to sit down and stay on. {grin}

2. use igoogle and google reader to maximize your time online. I do almost everything from my igoogle page... read blogs, twitter, facebook {which I never use}, read my health articles, weather and more.

3. limit the blogs you read... it's hard but you can't read every ones blog. I decided which blogs to add to my reader by asking myself this questions- "is this blog a healthy encouragement to me and my family?" There are many ways to be encouraged. {grin}

4. Schedule your posts- I tend to write 3-4 posts at a time and schedule them out. I also usually have 2-4 in drafts. I simply do not have enough time to sit and write lengthy posts all in one sitting. At least not usually!

5. If you have a blog idea... write it down on a notepad so you don't forget! I use my calendar a lot.

I do think blogging is healthy and a valid use of my time. I encourage my children to blog and journal also. Writing down your thoughts is a great way to learn from yourself and save memories.

Q: So, when do your kids start eating hummus? At the bean stage?

A: I start giving the kids hummus when they are able to dip veggies in it... probably around 1 1/2 years old.

Q: i'm wondering what your "standard" answer is to all those questions/comments you probably get when you're out with your large, young family??

A: Oh my, this could be a post all on it's own..... oh wait... I did start one of these posts MONTHS ago and never finished! Ha! It was a list of comments we receive. I should try to finish that sometimes SOON.

I usually smile and say "thanks" or "we are indeed blessed" or "God is great". If it's a negative comment I usually just smile and walk away.

Q: Why do you always dress Eliza and Nolia the same? Do you ever dress them different? Where do you find their clothes and what are some of your favorite stores to shop for them at?

A: I LOVE dressing the girls the same. It's fun, it's cute, it's special, it's unique & we all enjoy seeing them dressed the same. Something about the double effect. {grin} I DO dress them differently sometimes, mostly at night or if we aren't going anywhere. I have a few favorite outfits that are different but go together really well. Those outfits are all hand me-downs that were too cute to not wear!

I do still try to shop at Goodwill and thrift stores but it's hard to find matching. I've also had some luck finding a match to a hand me-down at Goodwill... but that's rare. I like etsy, Carters, Old Navy, Jumping beans from Kohl's and believe it or not Walmart {even though I don't like to shop at Walmart for lots of reasons} oh and Target too. We don't have a lot of money to spend on clothes so I usually buy everything on sale or already cheap. {grin}

Q: How do you feel about children going to the dentist. I am concerned about xrays for kids and fluoride. What are your opinions on it?

A: We DO take our children to the dentist. Healthy teeth and gums are very important! We start taking our kids in for cleanings around 3 years old. We do not do fluoride treatments but have done x-rays. Although I do believe they can be harmful I also believe they can be beneficial if not over used. Grayson is the only one who has had 1 set of x-rays done. Even without fluoride treatments it is in our water, our produce, meats, ect. Fluoride is a toxic chemical that should not be consumed. And it's not just fluoride that we should be worried about. Please read this article if you'd like to learn more about the dangers of regular toothpaste.

We use Trader Joes toothpaste and LOVE it!

You Asked it... Farm edition

So..... I know I'm not done with many of your questions from the last ask it series. BUT I think you will all be okay with waiting a little longer to hear those answers. Especially since I am answering your farm questions instead! {grin}

The BIG one....

Did we move?

Well... temporarily we did. At least I think it's temporary... for a while.

Does that help you understand at all? {grin}

I guess there is a lot that goes into why we are here. If you've read my blog for a while you might have picked up on the fact that this has been a hard year+ for our family...

bedrest with the twins
the loss of a well paying job
the car accident
and TONS of little things in between

God has been working on us... molding us, shaping up, holding us, showing us, leading us and changing our hearts. We have had to let go of our own lives even more than we thought we could. Throw it all up to God and cling to his Grace.

This adventure has been the biggest hardship AND blessing we have ever gone through. There is too much to get into here and now but one of the things that God kept laying on our heart was that we needed to be HERE.... on the farm.

Was it for us? Was it for our Grandparents? Was it for our children? Was it for all of us?

We don't know the why but we do know we are where God wants us to be right now, with no firm plans as to what we are doing next. There are many things that could have gotten in the way of us coming here but the path was wide open, it practically had neon signs flashing along the way. You could say I might be a hard learner. {grin}

So here we are, on the farm, hoping to put a firm foundation back under our family again. God has always been there and that foundation has not cracked but our family floor has -- so to speak. This past year so much has been thrown at us it has felt like all we were doing was slipping and falling. However tough it was, it has still been a blessing to be falling with God holding our hands and our family by our side.

NOW that you might have a better understanding of what in the world we are doing, here are a few of the nitty gritty details you have all be wondering.

Q: Did you sell your house?
A: Nope, it is still thankfully ours with no immediate plans to sell.

Q: Where are you?
A: We are in North Dakota on the family farm.

Q: How can your husband take that much time off of work.
A: One of the big changes that we have made in the last year is employment. Paul will not be looking for a full time job. He continues to do contract, consulting & at home work in his field. Both at home and here on the farm. He is also helping to work the farm although that is a gift and not employment.

Q: When are you coming home?
A: The tentative plan is to stay through harvest {September-October} and then come home.

Q: What are you farming?
A: Wheat and Soybeans... although I do believe the wheat land is being rented out currently.

Q: Are you staying with family?
A: There are 2 homes here and we are in one and Paul's grandparents are in the other.

Q: Did you bring the dog?
A: Yes all EIGHT of us PLUS the dog were packed like sardines to get here. {grin}

That's all the questions I can remember right now --- if you have more questions post them here and I will add them to THIS post as the come in.

So check back for your answer!

And YES I know I need to announce the winner{s} to the FIND IT contest. I promise it's coming soon there were a LOT {250} guesses to go through.

You Asked it! Part 4

Q: Why did your husband get back so early, I thought they were staying longer!!

A: Plans changed... as usual. There were certain men... dadsbrothershusband... that decided they did not like the idea of me driving 20 hours by myself. AND Paul had some work he wanted to get done BEFORE we ALL head back up there the end of the month.

Q: do you ever worry that you might be giving one child more/less attention than the others?

A: There are days that one or more children have been extra needy or very occupied. But it all seems to equal out through the week. Occasionally I will have a feeling that a child has been good.quiet.content all day and I haven't focused on them as much... and then I usually go find them and pester them. {grin}

Q: Do you ever have to work at not favouring children?

A: Nope, not one bit, not even when they are screaming -- ha!

Q: Do you have a tumble dryer?

A: Why, yes I do! A blessing indeed!

Q: Does ironing take you many hours?

A: Ironing....... what's that?! Ummm... I don't iron... anything.... ever....
So that would be... 0 hours. {grin}

Q:What do you think about when you do all that ironing and housework?

A: housework.. well... there are usually multiple children chattering in my ear, hanging on my legsbackstomach, so I am not sure WHAT I think about other than the task and children at hand.

Q: How many loads of laundry do you do a week?

A: 10-14 loads a week -- wow, that sounds like a lot!

Q: Do you believe in contraception?

A: We do believe in family planning... although we do not feel we are the only ones making the plan.

Q: Did you always plan to have so many children?

A: I don't think we had a firm plan, well, I KNOW we didn't have a firm plan. But we did TALK about having a LARGE family and the numbers 5 & 6 were interesting. {grin}

Q: how do you go about weaning your babies?

A: I don't wean my babies... at least I never have before. All of the boys have weaned THEMSELVES around 18-20 months. And I was usually pregnant when they did. I think you can guide your child to wean when you feel it's time but I wouldn't choose to do that before 2 years.

Q:What are some really special treats for the kids- i.e. place you go or eating out etc.

A: Some of the boys favorite treats are...
taking a picnic to the park
visiting our neighborhood ice cream shop
going on a family bike ride and we sometimes stop at the park or our local subway
I really could go on and on because the boys just love to go do stuff!

Q: I have 11 month old identical girls. Curious to know how in the world you get your girls to sleep in the same room??(I know they sleep in the same crib! Amazing!).

A: You know, I don't really know that we've done anything specific. We've just done. We have always put them in bed together, since the very beginning {same bed at the hospital}. They are on the same schedule so they go to sleep and wake up at the same time {most of the time}. We've tried putting them at opposite ends of their crib because we thought they might be waking each other up in the middle of the night. But they just end up back in the middle together, stuck like glue! It's positively cute and I hope they'll continue to sleep together for a long time, at least until they are out of a crib.

Q: I read way back (I think when one of your girls was taken to the hospital) that they don't take bottles. Mine neither! I think breastfeeding is WONDERFUL and thankful that I'm able to do it. With bf-ing twins, how do you find balance in your life? (Even the most devoted mom has to have a little time away :-)

A: That is correct, none of our children have taken a bottle, we have simply never had the need and I do NOT adore pumping {although I know that it is totally necessary for some mamas and that rocks, pumping mamas are awesome!}. Bf-ing the twins DOES take a lot of time, but it is time that I usually enjoy. Plus it's a good excuse to sit and be still for a little while. But I do need my time, and for me, that comes in the evening after the kids are in bed. I try to have all of the housework {that I'm going to do for the day} done before evening so I can enjoy my time with my husband, reading or blogging. {grin} Sometimes I do WANT more time to myself but I just remind myself that this is only a phase. Soon enough my children will not need me every hour and I will have much more me time so I am going to enjoy this time while I can. Attitude makes a HUGE impact on how you make it through and what you feel is balance.

Q: Are you going to have any more kids? And if so, have you ever considered adoption or foster care?

A: I mentioned our 'not sure' answer in a previous "You asked it" post. But I don't think I mentioned anything about adoption or foster care. Yes, we have talked about both possibilities and are very open to both of them, if that is Gods plan for our family. I think both are amazing blessings -- to the children and the family.

Q: If you could advise someone on 3 changes to make in their lives, what would they be?

A: Great question!
1: Take charge of your {own} health -- be interested, intrigued, informed by your {own} bodies reaction to life {food, medicine, environment}.

2: Throw away your TV {literally or figuratively} and sit down with your family. Have couch time with your spouse and kids, just being together, talking about life. It's one of the most powerful ways to pull a family together -- it becomes a safe place which ultimately leads to family strengthening.

You can start this out with just 10 minutes -- and you'll be amazed at how after a few weeks you'll still be sitting there an hour later and no one wants to get up.

3: Deepen your personal relationship with God -- I know this may feel HUGE and OVERWHELMING but it's as simple as being willing to talk to him {Jesus} honestly and personally. He cares about every last detail and delights in your time spent talking to him.

Q: What is your favorite activity with your children?

A: I LOVE reading, playing board games, hanging out at the park, cooking...

Q: How do you pronounce the girls' names?

A: Eliza -- E-lie-zah Nolia -- Noll-ee-ah {like the end of Magnolia}

Q: If you were blessed with Five Million Dollars, how would you use it?

A: I would build a New old style house in a gorgeous country town. A town where we all benefit from each others thoughts, acts and time spent. I would invest in family, friends, children and community. I would give greatly and spend minimally. -- sounds dreamy huh! {grin}

You asked it! Part 3

Q: if you don't drink milk or dairy and no soy either.. what do you give your kids to drink after they are done breastfeeding when they recommend whole milk for brain development?

A: I nurse our babies until they are 18-20 months. They have all weaned themselves at that age. So by that age we are not replacing breast milk for another milk drink. One of the reasons whole milk is recommended for BRAIN development is because of the fat content. We do try to keep our children on a high{er} fat diet by feeding them plenty of high fat foods -- such as -- avocado, salmon, coconut milk & nuts {including peanut butter, almond milk, almond butter}.

What do our kids drink? WATER and a few times a week they drink orange juice with clarks minerals. As a special treat we sometimes buy bolthouse farms green goodness juice. But really, our kids primarily drink water, water, water!

Q: And, I don't drink soy milk either, and I have a reason, I'm curious if it's the same reason (it inhibits the body from absorbing minerals)

A: There are SO many reasons why we don't eat soy and yes that is one of them.
click here to read what I've said before about soy.
click here to read a great article on soy.

Q:
What are your thoughts on drinking water (filtration, etc.)? What does your family drink/buy for water?

A: Drinking good water is ESSENTIAL. If you want to be healthy you NEED to drink good water. There is a lot of information out there about what is the best water... but it's all debatable... at a certain point. We try to avoid bottled water, for many reasons... environment, quality, toxic plastic, ect. BUT good 'ole city water is nothing to be excited about. AND you have to consider pure water for more than just drinking. We have a whole house carbon filtration system. It wasn't exactly cheap, but a worthy investment 8 years ago... and it's still going strong! Carbon cleans out your basic worries and such, but it doesn't clean out fluoride, pharmaceuticals and pathogens that attach themselves to the chlorine {that is killed by the carbon but leaves the pathogens}. So... we're ALMOST there, but not quite. Part of the reason we haven't purchased another water system specifically for our drinking water is for 2 reasons -- 1 cost and 2 we didn't know which one was best.

So here is where we are at... we believe Reverse Osmosis water is the best choice, but with a catch. RO basically removes EVERYTHING from the water, even the GOOD minerals that our bodies CRAVE. You can do one of two things... you could add minerals to your water in various forms. You can buy liquid minerals at your local health food store or you can buy our favorite, Clarks Minerals, that you can add to juice like I mentioned above. So basically you are getting really clean water with NO bad but you're losing some GOOD too. I know i've read some very helpful information on Dr. Mercola's site.

Q: also what supplements do you give your kids and in what form?

A: We give our kids the liquid clarks minerals mentioned above, and Mannatech mannabears and glycobears. Although because of cost we are currently NOT giving them those vitamins and upping their clarks because it's a bit more cost effective. When we are able I will FOR SURE buy more Mannatech vitamins for them. We also give them echinachia when needed and let them chew on fresh cone flowers throughout the summer/fall.

Q: I would be curious to know any books or resources you have used that have really shaped your views on healthy living. I am trying to go that way myself! Thanks!!

A: Talking and sharing with others about health is a GREAT resource. I talk with my husband, my friends, my family, my chiropractor, the dude at the health food store. Anyone, the MORE information you learn the better equipt you are to make confident healthy choices.
Aside from that, here are a few sites that I have learned a great deal from. I will say this again take what you can and keep learning, don't believe 100% of what you read, make your own educated decisions.
www.naturalnews.com
www.mercola.com
www.whfoods.org
Books that I read from again and again -- Foods that Harm, Foods that heal -- Food as medicine -- What would Jesus eat -- Infection Protection --

Q: I'm also wondering about eating a balanced diet. As silly as it sounds, I can't figure out how to make a meal plan with a balanced, healthy diet. I'm sure you have some wonderful ideas!

A: Healthy and balanced are very different. You can eat red pepper and hummus all day, everyday, and even though they are both healthy you will NOT be eating optimally.

Here is how we break it down --
1 -- VEGGIES
2 -- PROTEIN
3 -- FRUIT
4 -- GRAIN

That is our order of importance. Here is a sample breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks with 1-2-3-4 priorities in mind.

BREAKFAST -- 2 egg, 1/2 yellow pepper, 1/2 Roma tomato, 1/3 c. shredded carrot, 1 green onion - either omelet style or scrambled. 1/2 grapefruit, 1/2 Ezekiel English muffin topped with almond or peanut butter and agave nectar.

SNACK -- almonds, cashews, dried cranberries, raisins, dried mango mix {and for fun we'll add chocolate chips too}

LUNCH -- Red pepper, cucumber, carrots, grape tomatoes with hummus. Smashed pinto beans and avocado with tortilla chips.

SNACK -- apples and peanut butter

DINNER -- beans and rice {in some form -- curried, chili, ect.} cauliflower, broccoli

DESSERT/SNACK -- strawberries with non dairy mango sorbet

Hope that helps!

Q: I would like to know why you cook with grape seed oil. Thanks.
Q: what cooking oils do you use, and why? i know you do not use vegetable oil...what about olive oil? how do you know which oil to substitute in a recipe that calls for one you don't use?

A: Anything we saute or cook above 200-250 degrees we use grapeseed or coconut oil. Why? Because these oils have a higher heat tolerance than olive oil. Olive oil starts to decompose around 200-250 degrees, breaking down in nutrients and releasing possibly harmful chemicals.
Here is a link that talks a little more about it -- http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=56

As for substituting -- I do it all the time and have yet to run into a problem.

Q: In the nicest possible way, without eating dairy how do you guys get enough calcium?

A: There is more calcium in a serving of broccoli than there is in a glass of milk. Any green leafy vegetable is full of calcium -- so eat lots of those and you'll do fine! {grin} We also have Standard
Process Calcium Lactate on hand and use it when we feel we need a little extra.

Q: What would be your top ten snacks for lunchboxes on a budget? I'm am always trying to cut out unhealthy food from my children's diet. Sometimes my mind goes blank and we need to get the creative flow happening.

A: Oh this is a fun question!
1 veggies and hummus
2 apples and peanut butter
3 dried fruit and nuts {raw, unsweetened, unsulfered -- from Trader Joes}
4 chips, avocado and salsa
5 frozen fruit, granola, coconut milk & agave nectar {although that sounds messy in a lunchbox!}
6 wasa crackers, cream cheese or soft goat cheese, topped with tom, onion, sprouts, cucumber, pepper -- whatever you'd like. We use shredded carrots sometimes too.
7 Ezekiel bread, nut butter, honey - agave nectar or fruit spread
8 can of garbanzo beans or black beans -- plain or add tomato, cucumber, avocado, onion cilantro, oil, balsamic vinegar. The boys have fun adding different thing.
9 pita bread, hummus sandwich -- add onion, sprouts, shredded carrots, tom, cucumber, ect...
10 hard boiled eggs or egg salad sandwich

Now I'm HUNGRY! What a great place to end.... Which one shall I have?!? {grin}

Fun Fun again huh! If I have passed your question already, don't worry, I'm working out of order. I was trying to group them together with similar questions. Lots more to come!

You asked it!

Q: Did you have fertility help or IVF for the twins conception?

A: Nope! Identical twins are one egg that splits.

Q: Do you have stretchmarks?

A: Is that what those are? Oh yeah, I have stretchmarks... all from my first though. The other 5 have left minimal marks {on my tummy that is}. They used to really bother me, but they are so faded now...

Q: What does a post-6-babies tummy look like?

A: Aside from stretchmarks, the girls really stretched my skin out and it is not going back as nicely as I would have hoped. But they're worth it! {grin}

Q: HOW ARE YOU since the car accident??? Are you feeling like yourself again?
Q: how are you feeling since your accident? I see you are wearing both babies, is your back better or are you just not letting it stop you?

A: I am much better, thank you for asking. I DO still have daily pain in my chest... my sternum, ribs, clavicle & back are not completely healed. I am one that ignores the pain and keeps on going though. It's what I know how to do. And even if it hurts I WILL NOT miss out of wearing my babies or picking up my toddler. I have heard that it can take over a year to heal a sternum, and broken ribs will continue to go out forever. I wish the accident hadn't of happened, but it did, and it is part of my life now.

Q: whats your favorite item of clothing?

A: Oh, my palazo pants... I LOVE them. They are my friend! {grin} I also love my Tilly tanks. And no I was not paid or given anything to link to them. I simply LOVE their tanks!

Q: favorite color?

A: I LOVE color! All color! My favorite are color combos... bright green/turquoise blue, orange/hot pink, white/yellow and lots of colors in between!

Q: wolly socks: yeay or nay?

A: Socks? I don't wear socks! {gasp} I am usually wearing flip flops, flats, heels or slippers.

Q: what is your least favorite chore in/out of the house?

A: I don't mind cleaning up the kitchen... but after the 10th time of the day I'm a bit sick of it!

Q: if you could visit 1 state & 1 country which state&country would you chose and why?

A: I would love to visit Washington, it is so beautiful and I would love to meet some friends out there. {grin} I would love to travel through Ireland, the landscape is spectacular and feels so peaceful. But really... I would love to travel LOTS of places and hope to, with our children, someday.

Q: Where did you get your green dress that you posted with the baby poop on it?

A: It's a swim suit cover up from Target, but I didn't care, I just loved the color too much!

Q: You also mentioned last time you did this that you don't wash your hair for a week at a time. You've inspired me to go a few days between washings and I really like it. My hair isn't curly like yours (but it is red) and I wonder if you ever have grease or flakes to deal with.
Q: I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear more about your hair care, including PRODUCTS. I have red but pin straight hair. I tried the no washing thing for a few weeks (weaned into it with every other day) and I was a big greaseball. Any advice for hair products would be wonderful.
Thanks!
Q: What product do you use in that gorgeous hair? I have the same type of hair as you and style too so I would love to know what you use!

A: Thank you! I actually go longer than a week {gasp}, although I did start out going a few days, then a week, then longer between washings. I do however rinse my hair in the shower and once a week I soak my hair ends in apple cider vinegar. That tip is thanks to mrs. boo radley. {grin} It can take your body a while to readjust it's oil production that causes the grease and flakes.

As for products... I use Avalon or Burts Bees Shampoo probably twice a month, potion 9 leave in conditioner once a month and apple cider vinegar once a week. I use Suave naturals mousse too. I avoid any mousse with alcohol and suave is cheap and works great. Although it doesn't rate too good on toxic levels. :(

Q: How did you and Paul meet? What's the glue that holds you together (other than kids and faith)?

A: We met in High School, he was dating my best friend. But I didn't break them up, and he didn't cheat. {grin} As for our glue...We're one! I was created as his perfect mate. We completely get each other and we enjoy a lot of the same things and truly enjoy each others company. He is my best friend and I am his.

Q: And my biggest curiosity - where do you find the time? I have two children (9 months and 3 years), a blog, and a house. Maybe I'm just lazy and you're super mom but I can't for the life of me keep up. I'm always doing laundry, dishes, changing diapers, reading stories, writing posts and my place is still a disaster. How do you do it? Do you sleep? You're the most active mom I know and you seem to have it all under control. I know that we all post the great pictures, where everyone smiles, and no one has perfect children that never back talk but yours seem so story book. Really - what's your secret!?

A: Well thanks! but I'm not super mom. I can do what I do only because of God. It is true that we post the best pictures, although I do try to keep it real. {grin} My life is sometimes messy, crazy, loud, stressful & everything in between. Where I am at in my life, with everything I am responsible for and held accountable for, I can not focus on the negative. This blog is a story book... it is our families story book.

Another one of my favorite verses that goes along with this is...

Philippians 4:8
whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things.

So out with the bad thoughts of stress, worry and fear. Leave those behind and focus on the good and goodness will spread.

I hope that came across right... sometimes I just can't find the right words.

Q: What does it feel like to allow your mind to focus on your children?

A: Absolutely wonderful! To just be with my kids is an amazing blessing. It's so wonderful it makes me wish that I never had anything else to do other than be with my family.

Q: how the heck are u able to look so great after 6 kids?! lol thats all I am wondering. (Im guessing chasing 6 kids around is more than enough exercise!) But anything else u do?
How on earth are you so skinny? I have two kids and work out daily and still struggle.

A: ha! Well thank you! Besides being very active with kids and housework I would like to believe that what I put in my body makes a huge impact as well.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do alone with your husband?!

A: I cherish the time we spend together just hanging out, talking, laughing and enjoying each others company. And that... we can do anywhere.

Q: Do you sew/knit/ scrapbook...basically any crafty things?

A: I love to sew although I haven't done it in a while... I used to make embellished clothing for a boutique ebay group. It was fun while it lasted but I couldn't keep up with that and being mama! I love art, I love creating art in all shapes and forms. In the house, on the wall, in what I wear, with photography, ect. I also love stained glass and would love to learn how to knit.

Q: And just for the sake of it,do you like skittles? :)

A: They're okay... I'll eat a few but I prefer chocolate. {grin}

Q: You look about my age but I'm bad with ages, you are probably younger! So my question is how old were you when you had your first son?

A: 18 1/2

Q: what is your day to day outfit?

A: some form of stretch pants {palazo, yoga, gaucho}, tank & layering sweaters. I also like flowing tops.

Q: what do you wear when going out with your husband? i know you mentioned you don't like wearing what everyone else is wearing.

A: Something fun! Wide leg pants, heels, bright funky jewelry.

Q: any favorite jewelry?

I am not a diamond girl... I LOVE pearls. I have a favorite pair of pearl earrings. Other than that and my wedding ring {which looks just like my grandmas} I love bright fun necklaces, earrings and bracelets!

Q: favorite place to vacation with AND without the kids?

A: Not sure... we could have fun anywhere!

Q: i've seen in a couple posts you've mentioned your "2 dads" did you mean your dad and your father in law?

A: If you count my father in law I actually have 3 dads. What a lucky girl I am! My mom and step dad married when I was 5.

Q: are you planning on living where you are indefinitely?

A: Ummmm, probably not!

Q: Do you really grin and giggle as much as you type it?

A: I think so! Let me ask hubby......... yes I do! {grin}

Q: I remember the last time you did this you revealed your age and I remember thinking how young you are. It amazes me that you are so strong in your convictions (especially with diet) and you're so well researched. Do you ever wonder if you're doing the right thing?

A: No. I know I make mistakes and get things wrong... all the time. I am constantly learning and I hope I never stop! But I believe in what I am doing and feel confident with God on my side.

Q: Do you ever wish you could have a career?

A: I do have a career... and it is the best career in the world. God sure knew what he was doing when he planned my life! But no, I never wish I had another career.

Q: Do you worry about Ozzie not being looked after as well as you would look after him, when he goes away for weeks?

A: That is the longest Ozzie has ever been gone, and no I did not worry about him one bit. He was in his fathers very loving hands. Ozzie and Dad are very close too so I knew he would be fine.

Q: Do you worry about your husband being faithful?

A: Hmmmm... a little personal. But, I'll share. Only because I hope it will encourage some of you.

I used to worry, for no good reason, I would worry if he didn't answer his phone or if he was working late. And it was emotionally consuming, it was the devil putting fear into my heart and it wasn't right. It has taken some time but I have learned to give over that fear and know that we are meant to be together and we will always be faithful to each other.

Q: Do you ever wake up in the morning and just feel like you can't face the day with all those kids to feed and so much housework?

A: When I haven't slept good I will wake up and want to go back to sleep, but not because I feel like I can't face the day to day life. I truly do enjoy my life... and that is not something that we can do on our own. But God can give you that peace, that love and joy that we all crave. Without God I am certain I would feel like I couldn't face the day.

Okay.... round 2 complete! Many Many more to go!

You asked it!

Here is to the FIRST of MANY questions you all asked!

Q: What does Dad do for a living?

A: Dad has been in the IT, Tech, Internet Security field for many years. He has worked for large corporations, small companies, business start ups & independently. Last June, days after I was put on bedrest, he was let go from a business start up that was heading south. Since then he has done a lot of independent consulting to keep us going. It is very rare that he is not working. Our income may be lower than it was a year ago but God provides in amazing ways. Sometimes the numbers do NOT add up but it still works out.

Q: How do you afford pedipeds, etc. for your large family when you stay at home? I find finances a challenge with just 2 kiddos to clothe/feed/entertain

A: When Paul and I first married we decided that I would not work outside of the home so we have never planned or budgeted on a 2 income family. We are very careful about what we spend our money on. We try to live with less and be good stewards of the money we are blessed with from Paul's hard work. For example, we do not have cable, do not buy new toys, hardly ever buy new clothes, hardly ever buy things brand new, ect. I'll be answering more about this later.

Q: When you home school the boys what will the girls be doing?

A: Things may and probably will change as we settle into our homeschool routine but my plan for now is to work with the boys while the girls take their mid-morning nap. Right now the girls sleep from 10:30am-1:30pm which would be plenty of time for hands on teaching with the boys. I will have activities to do with Ozzie as well... such as puzzles, coloring, beans, ect. Our children usually nap for a while... Gavin just quit last year, he was 4 1/2.

Q: Do you have any tips on breastfeeding twins and babywearing twins?

A: Sure do! Breastfeeding -- don't give up, it can be hard at first and may take a month or more for it to become easy. Since the girls were #5&6 I did have experience on my side. Try nursing in lots of different 'positions'. Try using couch pillows, nursing pillow, no pillow, legs crossed, legs out... you get the idea. You are bound to find a position that works well for you and your babies. And before you buy a nursing pillow... ask around, I am sure you'll find someone who has one to give or loan.

What works for us -- no pillow, on the bed or couch, one baby on each side with their feet/legs intertwined together. When they were smaller I could nurse in a chair but now I need to have my legs out or slightly spread to make room for their legs.

Oh and another thing... if you are the least bit modest do NOT expect to be able to nurse in public. Honestly that has been the hardest part about nursing twins. You are quite exposed while nursing twins and the girls do not like being covered up!

Babywearing -- again, don't give up! Not all carriers will work for everyone. Try to find a few to borrow before you invest. That way you will figure out what works best for you and your baby/babies. Specifically for twins... mix and match. Don't think you need to use 2 of the same carrier. I thought this in the beginning but soon discovered that 2 ring slings for example was too much. But one ring sling and one pouch was just perfect.

Also, practice makes perfect. {grin} It can be a challenge to wear your baby properly. Some carriers are harder to learn that others but most require a basic learning curve. Once you learn you will be thrilled with how easy it is to wear your baby.

Some combinations that work for us --
pouch and ring sling, both on front
structured carrier and mei tie, one on front, one on back.
pouch or mei tie on front, backpack on back
when they were smaller both in the ring sling together worked well, however because of my limitations from the accident I never became extremely comfortable with this because I didn't do it enough.

Q: Do you guys plan on having more kids?! : )

A: Short answer -- not sure
Long answer -- although we both feel that we could be done we are open to Gods plans. We have let God direct our family size thus far and do not plan on taking back the reigns anytime soon. This does not mean we do not practice 'birth control/protection' which is commonly assumed. We both pray, separately and together about adding children to our family and wait until we both feel that it is time to try. For example -- Paul and I both felt that we should try for another baby shortly before becoming preggo with the twins. This lasted no more than 2 weeks before we both felt the need to control our lives again and said "maybe we should wait". Well... God had already used that opportunity to bless us with the girls. And needless to say... we are over joyed that he did!

Q: Are you going to have a Baker's Dozen like me :)

A: I absolutely LOVE large families and LOVE large mixed {birth, adoption, ect} families. Paul and I are both open to the idea of having a very large family but are not confident that that is Gods plan for us right now.

Q: Did you plan on having 6 children, and how old are you two?

A: When I was young I wanted to have 12 children... well... I am still young. {grin} Paul and I had at one point talked about our perfect number and it was six. We are both young... I am 27 and Paul is 28. We love being young parents and have no regrets about starting our family so young. We look forward to being younger when our children leave home and when we have grandchildren.

Q: Twins running in the family?

A: Nope! There are a few sets of fraternal twins on my fathers mothers side... BUT Identical twins are not hereditary. We are amazingly blessed!

Q: Did you ever think you would be a mom of girls, after 4 boys?

A: This is something that I prayed about a lot. After 4 boys I STILL felt the strong desire to have a daughter. I prayed that if we were not meant to have birth daughters that God would take that desire away and change my heart. When we were told that we were having twins I KNEW that they were girls. I felt so sure, unlike I have ever felt before. While I was preggo with the girls I was so sure that they were girls I found myself praying even harder for God to take that desire away if they were boys... and the opposite happened. I became so unbelievably sure that they were girls I would not have believed if our doctor had told us they were boys. It was absolutely crazy and incredibly faith strengthening.

Q: Do you get annoyed when you are out and people say, "Oh you finally got your girls!" Right in front of your precious boys:( (It happens to my friend and she gets so mad but doesn't say anything).

A: I do, and it used to be alot worse, I have learned to let go of that frustration a little {grin} and pray for protection over my sons. That they would not be hurt by those words and they would know and feel how loved and wanted they are in our family. I would NOT change our family 'line up' one bit! I adore being a mother to 4 boys in a row and feel honored God chose us. They were in NO WAY stepping stones to our girls. This is Gods plan for our family and we are completely confident in that.

Q: Does your blog generate income? Is that how you can afford etsy items & cute clothes?

A: Currently no, although I have been told {grin} that I should offer advertising for a small fee. And I might do that in the future. For now I have chosen to share my blessing of many readers with other mama businesses and good value companies. I have been given some items from etsy and others in exchange for sharing their names and links with you. BUT I have never shared a company that I would not support or would not spend my own money on. I feel very strongly about this and have turned down certain offers because of that.

Q: What kind of doctor do you see?

A: We see many doctors -- OB, pediatrician, Whole health Chiropractor & dentist

Q: what do you think of homebirth and would you ever consider it?

A: I love the idea of homebirth, although I firmly believe it is not for everyone. When we found out we were expecting #5 I decided that I wanted to have a homebirth... but then we found out we were expecting #5 & #6 and decided that we should continue to see my regular OB and deliver in a hospital.

Q: Love all your kids names!! Especially the girls! How did you and Paul pick names? What are some of your other favorites?

A: Thank you! We are 'no list name pickers'. We wait until we see the baby to pick out their name. In the very beginning we joked that Paul got to name the boys and I got to name the girls. Well... it kind of worked out that way. Paul picked out Grayson, Vance, Gavin & Nolia. I picked out Ozzie & Eliza. Although we both completely agreed on each name.
Some baby names that I really like? Off the top of my head here they are --
[boys] Nash, Clay, Wyatt, Beck, Nolan
[girls] Nola, Lola, Brin
I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them right now.

Q: How did you come up with all the names for the kids? I just love the name Ozzie (I'm thinking I might name my baby that if I have a boy - If that's okay)

A: See above answer {grin}. We love Ozzies name too! It fits him perfectly! After he was born I was sleeping with him in the middle of the night, we had not named him yet and in fact, had no names picked out yet. I woke up and the name Ozzie popped in my head. I looked at him and knew that was his name. I remember being very anxious for Paul to wake up so I could ask him if he liked that name. And sure enough... he felt it was perfect too! Oh and if your baby looks like an Ozzie you should totally name him that! {grin}

Q: i would LOVE to hear about your thoughts on sunscreen

A: I really have been wanting to do an entire post on this subject, but for some reason can't find the time! {grin}. Just a few thoughts --
-Our bodies need vitamin D and if we wear sunscreen we decrease our Vitamin D production by 99% or close to.
-Most sunscreen, even natural ones, contain ingredients that are worse or equal to the risk of sun exposure.
-Sun exposure without sunburn significantly reduces your risk of skin cancer. So safe sun exposure is key.
- Wear a hat that protects the thin skin on your face, if you wear sunglasses lift them up every 15 or so minutes so your eyes can soak up the rays. Your eyes tell your body that you are in the sun which causes your body to react differently to sun. If you wear sunglasses your body does not receive the right triggers that help your skin to protect itself.
-clothing is an EXCELLENT protection to strong rays, as is shade.
-Try to not over due it and listen, watch, for cues from your body. When your skin gets slightly pink, it's time to go inside, cover up or move into the shade.
-Now I know sometimes you can not avoid being in the sun for extended periods of time... and in those times we do use sunscreen.
-check out this site to see how safe your sunscreen is... Skin Deep
-another thought... you are what you eat, so the better you eat the stronger your skin will be and the less you will burn. A few skin boosting foods are -- Salmon, red-pink-orange fruit & veggies, cooked tomatoes, berries, red/yellow peppers, dark greens & dark chocolate. Yummy!
**this is information that I know, you can google any of this to find numerous credible sites that will confirm any of this**

Q: Why are your kids so cute?

A: Have you seen their parents? {grin} Thank you, we think they are very cute too! I joke that it is a survival technique!

Q: Do you ever eat out since you seem to eat just organic?

A: yes we do! We love Chipotle, subway & Chinese food. We eat healthy most of the time so we can splurge some of the time.

Q: If you had to chose a career (besides being a mommy), what would it be?

A: I would love to be a professional photographer some day, and or work in nutrition.

Q: What are the subjects you plan on homeschooling your children?

A: The normal, history, science, reading, writing, ect. with extra focus on math and art. We are also adding Spanish & nutrition, among other natural learning that goes along with homeschooling.

Q: What annoys you the most?

A: I am not usually easily annoyed -- but if I had to pick one thing it would be rudeness. If we could all just be a little bit nicer the world would be a happier place. {grin}

Q: Most annoying comment you get?

A: I receive a wide range of negative comments about our family size -- usually in front of our family.

Q: How did you handle each transition from one child to the next, and which number was hardest to adjust to?

A: For us, each transition has come quite easily. The hardest was going from 1 to 2 because I had to learn to really start multi-tasking. Adjusting to the twins was hard in the beginning but it was primarily from my accident, not because we had twins.
We really try to include our children in everything we do, we encourage them to take care of each other and to become best friends. We believe that God has given each of our children the heart for a large family because they all truly enjoy it.

Q: I was reading your birth stories but there aren't any in-depth posts about the details on the twins' birth! Do you plan to post their birth story, too?

A: I will post their birth story soon -- I am probably about ready. Because of the accident and a lot of emotions that go around that it has been hard for me in the past to really talk about it.

Q: How did you decide you want to homeschool in the first place?

A: When we first had kids I said I would NOT homeschool... ha! Funny how things change. One of the big reasons that we are choosing to homeschool is because Grayson does not enjoy school and has not for 3 years. He is incredibly bright but holds himself back because he does not want to be there. I want him to LOVE learning and I believe that homeschooling next year will help him see learning differently and begin to take ownership of his own learning. And with that... he will be able to take himself wherever he wants to go!

There are TONS of other reason why we have chosen to homeschool but that was the first reason.

Q: How did you get into photography? What kind of camera do you recommend?

A: I am a self taught photographer... although I did take a glass in highschool. The creative eye has come naturally to me, however the nitty gritty technical stuff has not. I am still learning everyday!
As for camera recommendation... The canon rebel is awesome! I have yet to find someone who does not love theirs.

Q: How do the boys like the idea of HS next year?

A: They ALL love it! They are thrilled and can not wait to start!

Q: What curriculum will you guys be using?

A: Not set in stone but we are almost certain we will be using My fathers World, Math-U-See, copy and dictation, Eye Q, and a few other undecided.

Q: Favorite bible verse

A: Oh, there are so many...
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” {Philippians 4:19}
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
{Matthew 7:24}
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass ... Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him
{psalms 37:4,7}

Q: How do you get your pictures so darn big??? I love it!!

A: I love it too! If you go to your html code and look at your picture code you should see "s400" change the 400 to 800 for vertical pictures and 576 for horizontal pictures.

Q: I know you shop at Goodwill...do you just go all the time, because I NEVER find good stuff there. Any tips?

A: I don't go that often... maybe twice a month. The key is find a good goodwill. We have 2 in town... one is great and the other isn't. And be sure to give lots of great things to goodwill and tell everyone else to also!

Q: Any tips on picky eaters? It seems like all your kids eat so well. I have one super picky, carb only eater. It kills me :)

A: Although my kids are good eaters, they have all gone through a picky phase. Start them out on good food and they will be more likely to keep eating it as they grow. If the kids are being stubborn about eating something I tell them they need to eat as many bites as their age -- 5 years old means 5 bits. And usually by the time they have eaten a few bites they are enjoying it. It's just the initial not wanting to try it that we struggle with. If there is something a child does not want to eat over and over I tell them they need to eat it every other time. I'll also occasionally let the kids pick one thing they don't have to eat if we are having more than one thing... I don't do that too often though but if they are not interested in eating 2 or more things this one works well. And lastly... keep trying. Eventually they WILL eat those red peppers if you keep serving them.

Q: What do you use to get stains out (of clothes primarily) and especially breastfed baby poo?

A: SOAK SOAK SOAK... soaking clothes in just a bit of laundry soap does wonders! They usually need to soak at least 12 hours but preferably 24.

Q: I love the post where you had your boys answer questions all about their mommy. I used it for my daycare kids and gave it to the mom's for mother;s day. They all loved it! My question is to you have one all about dad???? I would love to do one for father;s Day!

A: I don't but I love this idea so much I am going to put one together... very soon!!! Thanks!

LOTS more to come!

Ask It!

Curious minds want to know...

they want to know why we don't drink soy milk

why we don't use sunscreen

if twins run in the family

where I buy our children's clothes...

you name it.

I have 100's... literally... 100's of emails flagged for the next "You asked it" post.
But going through and finding them all, well, I keep putting it off.

So... here is your chance!
Ask again!
Ask here!

and I'll answer every question from this post.
Well... if you start asking some really freaky or waaay too personal questions, I might not answer those! {grin}

I will try to answer all of the questions this week...
