late night talking

I'm beginning to really enjoy these late night chats {grin}

the girls have a little cold... nothing bad but I think we'll miss the homeschool playgroup tomorrow because of it. Don't want to get anyone else sick.

We found a 3-4 week old kitten in the yard earlier this week. So adorable with tiger stripes and the softest black padded feet. I woke up in the middle of the night to feed it coconut milk and silver... it was sick. We loved on it all day, naming it, praying for it and enjoying it. That evening it passed away. We were all heart-broken.

On a brighter note we enjoyed the most delicious garden cantaloupes I've ever tasted. I can't wait to have another one tomorrow.

The melted crayons have been a huge hit. Although I'm already collecting more broken crayons for another go at it. I'd like to make them thinner and taller.... these aren't as easy to hold on to as I thought they would be. But they're being thoroughly enjoyed none-the-less

I'm working on a homeschool post... for all those who asked {grin}

Did I tell you we helped pick 4,000 pumpkins last Sunday. Well when I say we I really mean my husband helped pick, my son's helped transport & the girls and I helped with feeding the group. A delightful friend from our church has a HUGE pumpkin patch and all proceeds go towards building churches in 3rd world countries. Fun times! Fun times!

We took a truck load into the recycle center today. It was almost 1 year of recycling... so glad we finally found a place to take it. Grandma still thinks it's silly. Oh well, we're still taking her stuff in too. That is if she doesn't burn it first. We'll keeping working on her. {grin}

I took some pictures of the garden today... hopefully i'll share tomorrow.

off to bed to watch a netflix documentary with hubby.

  2. You should try using candy forms for your crayons. You can melt them into all kinds of cool shapes like stars, hearts, etc.

  3. Aww. I'm so sorry about the kitten. That is heartbreaking. We had a beautiful little fawn come and lie down under a tree in our front yard. I was so excited. It was just so pretty. Then it wouldn't get up. The next day it was gone so I assumed it was okay. Until I saw my hubby's wheelbarrel and shovel in front of the house. When I asked him why it was out there he couldn't think of a good excuse so I knew he had disposed of the poor little fawn before I could see it. He knows I can't handle stuff like that. Just thinking about it breaks my heart. :(

    ANYWAY...

    Selling pumpkins to help others! How cool is that!!! I love it! :)

    Hope your girlies feel better!

  4. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about the kitten. What a sweet thing, and a lesson in love for your children. Beautiful that you did it.
    The pumpkin harvest sounds like great fun.
    Good work in keeping up the recycling!

  5. We made those crayons and my kids had a blast...then my youngest son (2 yrs at the time) grabbed a small piece of crayon and stuck it up his nose when I wasn't looking! We couldn't get it out and to make a long story short he ended up at the ER for HOURS before they finally got it out...so we haven't made them since, ha, ha!! We still have them though and every once and a while I'm brave enough to get them back out and let them color while I watch like a hawk.

    I love that you are homeschooling and can't wait until there are some homeschooling posts. I'm starting to homeschool as well, although my kids are still quite young.

    I've been reading your blog for some time now and this might be the first time I've ever commented...oops. :)

  7. sorry to hear about your kitten. :( We had the same thing happen to us a few years ago... I looked at it as having given that kitty tons of love and she "went" a happy and loved kitty...

  8. You are making a difference, one person at a time! Nice work. Sorry about the kitty. :( How upsetting for the kids. Can you share how you make crayons from broken ones? I am interested in doing the same. Thanks in advance!!

    We used to make crayons like that in tinfoil....can easily shape that longer and skinnier.

    sure! It was super easy! Just peel all your broken crayons, break them into small pieces. Place them in a muffin pan, bake at 150 for 10 minutes or so. Let them cool and pop them out! Ta-da! {grin}

    I have some plastic candy molds, I thought I could pour the hot wax into them. But they are at our old house still.

  19. That's the prettiest picture of crayons I've ever seen. :)

    Sorry about the kitty (I totally thought the coconut milk and silver would have rescued it, but I guess a little too late, huh?)

    We did melty crayon crayons and it was a DISASTER! And after all that, they didn't even write! AT ALL! Dang it! It was so bad I don't even think I'll ever try it again! So unlike me, huh!? :-)
