hop-hop little bunnies

Okay… I really hate to disappoint so many of you who obviously LOVE those little cheesy bunnies. BUT… we went for the cheese it’s because Annies little sweet bunnies are made with MSG!!!!! You would think you could trust a sweet loving lady like Annie but I guess not… they went and tried to trick us by using ‘yeast extract’ which is MSG in disguise. This is what their website says…

What is "Yeast Extract?"

Yeast Extract is a savory flavoring agent naturally produced by growing, harvesting, and concentrating yeast cells. The yeast self-digests (autolyzes), breaking down the cell walls, and creates a savory base used to formulate a multitude of different flavors.

Here’s a great article that explains yeast extract and msg in more detail.

  2. Yeah, that darn "yeast extract." So sneaky. Shame on Annie's, really. No Cheddar Bunnies for us. I let my boys have Annie's Honey Bunnies for a treat on occasion...no MSG hiding in those. Also, it's worth noting that there is no MSG in regular Cheezits, but there is in the flavored varieties!

  3. ACK! How is it I never knew this? So sneaky. Thanks for the head's up. My son is really sensitive to MSG and now I'm wondering if some "mystery" headaches are explained? I'm off to email Annie's...

  4. The only people we can trust is ourselves and our livestock, fruit and veggie gardens, right?! Oh, how I wish that was the case (the growing our own food part)!

We've bought Annie's Cheddar Bunnies once, never again!

  5. Oh man! I'm so glad we've decided not to buy processed foods anymore!! Ugh, this is so disappointing, we used to get Annie's cheddar bunnies like crazy!!! Now it's just nuts, seeds, fruits and granola for us! I wonder if I could make cheddar crackers at home?? hmm....

  6. That's why I have never been able to buy them! I look longingly at them every time I pass while shopping.

It's amazing how many food items in the health food store have MSG and other yucky qualities about them. Pretty disheartening!

  9. I'm so creeped out by the cost cutting stuff we put in food in this country . . . but I'm torn because I'm cheap, too! So I don't want to pay more for food, but I don't want the food I'm eating to kill us. *sigh*
