our tree...

it's UP
...however...
the lights are only half done
we ran out of lights... we have about 10 dead strands
the ornaments are still in the basement
it took us SEVEN days to put the tree up
in pieces
all over the family room

this is our tree 2 years ago
before ornaments
but still more done that this years

i remember staring at that tree
in that place
in the middle of the night
waiting for hubby to take me to the hospital to have Ozzie

i love our big tree
i love Christmas
i love celebrating Christs birth
i love watching my children celebrate Christ
it's such a wonderful time of year
{money or no money}

I THINK we'll finish our tree before...
Christmas! Ha!

Is your tree up??

  1. This year we're not putting one up because the kids will just be pulling it down and we'll be away over christmas. Very untraditional but thats not what makes christmas. There is a song on my blog "Christmas is all in the heart" its one of my fav christmas songs.

  3. Your Tree looks great already!! We are not putting one up this year, we are going to be gone over Christmas and my son is to little.

  4. We put ours up before Thanksgiving this year so that we could enjoy it longer. Since we have a 9 month old who we thought would be very interested in pulling the tree down, we placed two storage benches back to back, covered them with a red sheet and elevated the tree on those so she can't reach them. Thank goodness for the 2 story family room! Now, we can have our tree and she can't get to it but really enjoys looking at it!

  5. Ours is always put up the weekend after Thanksgiving. Otherwise, I don't feel we've had enough time to enjoy it (all that work) before it's time to take it all down!

Slight problem this year. Only two sections of the built in clear lights worked. AFter pricing artificial and live trees, we decided to strip the lights off the tree and replace them. My youngest wanted colored lights so we obliged him just this once. I DO NOT like the colored lights after years of clear ones. It looks so dark! So next year it will be clear and I'm buying them after Christmas on clearance. Yay!

  6. Our tree is up AND decorated, though it took 2 days to get there. Now just to sit back and enjoy the twinkling lights for a few weeks!

  7. Yep~ and I had lots and lots of help too! Inside and out! Luckily I had some back up lights for the dead strands!

We ran into someone the other day who buys all new lights ever year. Okay, that's not in the budget for us! We have to recycle those lights!

  9. We have ours up. We got the tree two days ago (it's a real one) and we decorated it last night. Ours does not have nearly as many lights as yours though. However, we have soooo many lights. You can have some of ours :) I am not sure how we collected so many (LOL).

  10. Our tree is up! We have made it a little tradition to put it up the day after thanksgiving. We have done that because it is very probably that my husband is home that day...and we host thanksgiving so we are always here! We also usually leave it up until new years..sometimes longer! I love your tree. Looks so gentle and pleasing! Baby steps sometimes right?

  12. The tree goes up Thanksgiving weekend along with my 30 Creche (nativities) and the other inside and outside decorations. - I won't deny it was harder this year but everyone has their part and we make it a fun family event and keep our expectations low.
    Merry Christmas!

  13. Very nice!!! Yes we finally have ours up - not as grand as I would like, but with our two little ones, it will do for this year!

  14. I wish my tree was up!! We are swamped with getting our Christmas production ready...opening night is in 9 days! I have 2 free nights in December...the 12th and the 22nd. I've told the kids if it doesn't happen on the 12th...we're just going to have to make believe we have a tree!!

  15. I've got my tree half way up. We ran out of lights and have to get more. Your tree is gorgeous!

  16. wow... that tree is artificial?? It looks so real and its gorgeous. Also I think maybe its a good thing that yours isnt completely up yet, Mine is... and has already needed to be redecorated once due to half the ornaments being underneath the tree and the ribbon half pulled off. On another note- Is that your house? It looks beautiful-I love all the character:)

  17. we put our tree up before thanksgiving because we knew we were going to be out of town the whole week of thanksgiving and wouldnt be back until sunday!! Dead strands of lights really annoy me.. seems like the first few you pull out ... always never work:)

  18. We have three trees this year. My mom was downsizing and gave me her skinny artificial one (in the living room), Sam has a tiny one in his room (Julia gets a long strand of pink lights strung over a door frame), and we have our real tree in the library.

We try to wait for snow so we can enjoy the full experience of cutting a tree down in the woods, but I was too anxious this year and got ours the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Our wild balsam doesn't look like most trees - more of a Charlie Brown feel to it (except for the height - it's 9 feet), but I love it.

Usually we put the lights and wooden cranberry garland on when the kids are sleeping and then decorate together as a family. I like the simplicity of white lights and no ornaments, but the beauty of a wild balsam is that the ornaments can fit all the way to the trunk so they aren't so concentrated on the tips.

I'm sorry your lights aren't working. That's frustrating. I guess they don't make them like they used to. Julia's pink lights are at least 9 years old and still going strong.

  19. What a beautiful tree!
My hubby had to run out in the middle of decorating to get more lights too. Three of our strings weren't working either. ;)

  22. I'm sure it will look great when you're done!

We get a real tree every year, we got it Sunday evening and put it up before bed. I think that's going on my blog today. I need some new deco but I'm waiting until the after Christmas sales this year to stock up!

  23. Our tree is up!! I'll post pictures soon! That's a gorgeous tree!

  24. Yep...we got ours up last Saturday. I was really surprised that Owen doesn't bother it. He just points at it and say, "treeee". Sometimes he touches the lights and says, "hot", but that's it.

  25. Is my tree up? Hmm, well, it's in it's stand. That's about it. We got it on Saturday but I've been sick and then when I feel like doing it (cuz I feel better) something else happens to make me feel horrible again. But we're having a Christmas party on Saturday so we kinda gotta get it all decorated asap!

Your tree is very purty, even if it is from two years ago. teehee =)

  26. I look around my house and nothing screams Christmas at me. We usually put our tree/decorations up Thanksgiving day/weekend, but we were rocked this year and it has yet to go up. I'm just not in the spirit, but reading your blog makes me want to get there...FAST! Pretty tree!

  27. Yep, we have two, both were up & decorated before Thanksgiving.

I posted pictures of both of them, in different posts:

Oh well, I like the handmade things the boys make at school better than all the fancy glass ones anyhow!

  33. Our tree is NOT up yet because we just bought a house and move on the 20th! I will put it up that day! It will only be up for a couple of weeks, but hubby and I got married 3 1/2 years ago and this is our first year to have a house and a tree, so even if it is only up for a short time, I am excited!

  35. I forgot to mention in my other comment that I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who uses a blanket for a tree skirt. In our new house the reds I used to use don't work so instead of blowing $30 on a skirt, I bought a cheap fleece blanket that Julia needs this winter anyway and used that.
    Your floors are beautiful!!!!

  37. Ours is up...but we skipped all the other millions of decorations. We are having A Simple Christmas this year which our church is encouraging, and I'm LOVIN' the idea.
    Don't fret over the tree....

  38. No tree yet here... You are way ahead of me! I was going to blame it on just having twins but you ruined that excuse for me!

  41. Our tree isn't up. With just moving and trying to house train a dog, it just hasn't happened. I really love your tree, even if only part done!

  42. So pretty! What a great memory you have of your tree a couple of years ago!

I posted a pic of ours on Thanksgiving weekend. You probably saw it... ; )

  43. Lovely!

We just have a tiny wrought iron tree skeleton--but it's still fun! And I put ornaments on our dried branches that are in vases...does that count?

    ;)

  44. Our is up, bare but up!!! I am glad I am not the only one who takes days to put up a tree!!!

  45. No tree for us this year new baby is taking all our time!

  46. It's up but I can't get my little guy to stop playing with the ornaments. You would think at 4 years old this would not be a problem but this year he is fascinated. Oh well. I love that he loves it. Hoping yours gets up soon and you can enjoy the beauty of this season even more. :)

  47. I don't think we are putting one up this year which makes me sad... I love our Christmas tree. We are only home for two weeks before we leave again to see family for Christmas! Sometimes I wish we lived closer!

    ReplyDelete
  48. You've gotten further than we have! There won't be a tree this year, for the second year in a row. I guess we never find the right night to get it rolling, and then we realize that Christmas is just as worshipful without a tree...

Yours looks very, very pretty though!

  49. Our tree is up...and been up for almost two weeks..however, not a single light or ornament has made it there yet! :) Maybe tonight? lol

  50. I saw your blog for the first time shortly after your girls were born, but have not been back much since then. They are getting so big! Busy life here, too . . . I totally understand about the tree, etc. I was thrilled to get my Christmas decs for the year done over three days' time, and only did about 1/2 the decorating I have other years. We have 7 children, all 10 1/2 years old down to 8 months--1 boy, then 5 girls, then another boy, with the youngest two girls being twins. I homeschool also (4 of them this year), and most days do not accomplish much of what I want to/need to in the house or with school it seems! Life is busy, but thank the Lord for all my little ones--I wouldn't have it any other way!
