Nesting gone bad...

You know that ‘nesting’ phase that happens when your preggo. Yeah well… I’ve been able to hold it off for weeks and weeks knowing that I couldn’t do anything but we still had time to get things done. Holding off is NOT working anymore so I’m doing my best to nest from the couch and during my 10 minute ‘up’ breaks. We’ve been busy over the last few days… taking huge loads to Goodwill (I wasn’t doing any errrr much lifting), picking up some free twin gear from a friend of our neighbor who had twins, emptying my dresser to give to the babies, sorting through baby clothes, ect. I still feel like we are a far cry from ready. I haven’t even thought about what I need to bring to the hospital. My labors are normally L-O-N-G and I have always gone into labor in the middle of the night, waking up to heavy contractions, taking a shower, packing a bag, calling my mom, waking hubby up and finally heading to the hospital. When we get there I am normally 9 cm and they rush me in and hook me up only to have my labor take 10-15 more hours. So I am not normally worried that I won’t make it. But for some reason I keep thinking this is #5 & #6 and they might come faster. What if my water breaks? It never has before… but with all that extra weight and kicking who knows.

So I need to make a list for the hospital, wash some babies clothes, go get and set up a crib in our room, buy disposable diapers, make plans for the kids, ect…. I know it will get done and it will all work out fine but man do I wish I could be up and going right now. I have my OB appointment on Tuesday and she’ll check my cervix so we’ll see if it’s getting even thinner. I’m guessing so… but with it only being 1cm 2 weeks ago it makes me wonder how thin it can get before labor starts. Hmmmmmmm. I still think these babies will stay put for a few more weeks. I guess we’ll just wait and see!

Off to make that hospital list!

Hope you’re all having a great weekend!

  1. That must be torturous having the nesting urge but not being able to do much about it. That would drive me nuts! The last two months for me are usually just running around cleaning nonstop.

How exciting to be getting so close now. You must be so thrilled/excited/nervous/elated!

  2. Just to give you encouragement...I stayed at 1cm for weeks with one of my kiddos. Another labor I was at 4cm with hardly any pain. My midwife always tells me that women establish patterns (especially those with several pregnancies)and their bodies "usually" follow those same patterns (i.e. if you deliver a week or two before your due date, etc..)So hang tight Momma, I think you're doin' great!

And I totally get the nesting thing - I took 7 boxes to Goodwill week before last and I have 3 more started!! Out with the old and in with the new! Babies that is!!

  5. Aw, that must be so hard to nest from the couch. Looks like you've got a lot done though!!

You've inspired me to get going on some nesting early... I need to make a few trips to goodwill myself... we just decided we're putting our house up for sale, so possibly moving while pregnant is gonna be an adventure... yikes. I better start packing now already.

  6. Make lots of lists, at least that way you will know what to do when you get up for 10 minutes. I'm sure you will have/get everything or someone will be willing to run somewhere and pick up diapers and wipes!

Hey, I need to get a new infant car seat and noticed you picked the Maxi Cosi. Why? It has made my short list, I just want to know what you think about it and compare it to others that you have used. Thanks!

  7. I am curious about your labors..mine are also long and I ALWAYS get stuck around 8 or 9 for hours and hours (which I have done 2 times without meds...I dont recommend it! I think you are wise for just automatically getting something! I did with my last one and itwas the best labor EVER!)
so...sidetrack...tell us about your labors (or at leat one of them) whey does it take you so long at the end?

  10. ouchy!!! that does sound long!! I hope the twin thing does make it quicker for you!

I am currently sitting here with nasty stretching pains getting everyone in my family to complete what I would normally do!! so I can fully sympathise.

  11. OH please share about your other labor & deliveries!!

I was at a 9cm with my frist for 4 hours followed by 2 hours of pushing with no epi - I still shudder!!!! but 10 + hours at 9 - wow! My other 2 went by much quicker (and I did get epi's), and with my last baby my water did break. It was a very wierd experience to wake up in the middle of the night and here a "pop" and have my water break all over the place! Rhys was born 4 hours later. I am very much looking forward to hearing of how the twins L&D go. You are so close!!!

  12. I can not imagine not being able to NEST! I feel your pain. Take it easy though, things will get done, and just think, after you have those babies you can go to town :)

Praying your OB apt goes well.

  13. Brittany...I started reading your blog off of "Tarah's" blog, and I want to encourage you to stay on the couch (think of it as your new job). You don't want to be in the position of having to leave them at the hospital just because you chose to get everything ready for them. Be strong! I was bedrest with my twins (#4 and #5) for 13 weeks...delivered at 37 wks. I'm a Labor and Delivery nurse at a well known hospital in town. My prayers are with your 'bump'.

  14. FYI...I was 2 cm at 31 weeks, 4 cm at 36 weeks, and 5 cm (and STILL not in active labor) at 38 weeks. I was also like 80% effaced as well. SOOOOOO, your cervix can get very thin and you still will not be in labor. It drove me nuts!!! LOL

  15. I hope they stay put too...for a couple more weeks. That way you can enjoy double kicks for a tad bit longer.

But I can't wait until the big day. So exciting. Will you bring your lap top with you and have your husband update us while at the hospital?

  16. First--can I just say you are so cute!

It is so hard to wait those last weeks...I can't imagine how much harder it would be being stuck to the couch!

    You're doing great though!

  21. Pregnancy and moving are the two great Goodwill purge periods. While I'm not pregnant, I AM moving and I think I have doubled their inventory!

  22. Hopefully they'll give you the go ahead to start moving around all you'd like in a few weeks! They will won't they?

I can just picture you running around the house with a 10 minute timer set. ; )
