Weekly Wrap

Just taking it easy... easier said that done. But we're trying. *grin* Paul's been working at the Muirfield house most of the week and it's FINALLY summer *I think*. It's 80 today... i'm happy... just don't get any hotter. ha!

The boys had their school carnival last night... it was a lot of fun. I didn't bring my camera *gasp*. I just didn't feel up to it. Kind of sad. Next week is the boys last week of school. I am SO excited! I can not wait for summer break. I really hate sending them to school each day... it still feels so odd.

Well i'm off to 'take it easy' and lay on the couch with my G.W. while Ozzie is napping.

I have my OB appointment on Monday and my Peri appointment on Tuesday... i'm curious to see how the babies are doing and if these contractions are doing anything. I hope not.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Hi Brittany! I've been a 'lurker' for months now (can't remember how I found your site), but I really enjoy your photography and hearing about a young family. (My blog site has been a bit distracted lately as we've been involved with a large remodel - hope to get back to its regular self soon).

I've not felt drawn to comment until now. "I really hate sending them to school each day... it still feels so odd." Then, why do it? Perhaps God is leading you to home educate your family! I felt the same way more than 12 years ago. We left the school system when our oldest son was in 3rd grade and our daughter was in 1st. While I believe in an academic foundation, our home education has allowed our children to develop the 'gifts and talents' God gave each of them. Our oldest son is a music major at Seattle Pacific University (and will likely be a student for the rest of his life - he loves it!). Our daughter is a seamstress and tailor (something she's done since she was 8 years old - took lessons from a woman at our church for several years and then a few years working with a tailoring mentor)and while this is still a hobby for her (hasn't decided what to do with it exactly) she is currently working at Banana Republic and is a small group leader for 7th grade girls at our church and our youngest son (a brain - isn't the academic type, as he learns so easily and is quickly bored - is a computer geek, loves history and military stuff and is a gamer; ugh.) and he's my greatest home education challenge. Over the years, our family has been involved with different ministries together, done community service together and we've learned and grown individually and as a family. Our children easily converse with adults and still have a great time as young people. We eat organically, try to keep 'junk food' to a minimum and are preparing to plant most of our city lot in edibles. Home education made us closer as a family and our children have a special bond with each other.

My approach to homeschooling has been a bit of traditional mixed with alot of 'unschooling' - following the path God lays before us (ministry, community service, helping others, music and sewing lessons, 4-H, etc). It gave us flexibility ~ to go to the beach on a sunny day (oceanography), to do a day hike and explore nature, go to a museum (just because) or help out with a special 4-H event. Most of all, it gave us the opportunity to develop their character; home education - for us - was all about discipleship! I think you get the idea... Our children are well educated (to the surprise of some) and are viewed as quite mature for their ages (though they act their ages too). :)

Something to think about and pray about. I realize that with twins on the way, it may seem overwhelming. However, with God all things are possible. You may be surprised at how quickly 'school' (academics) can be accomplished - especially in the early years - leaving time for family and exploring interests that each child has. We were amazed to watch God unfold the petals of each of our flowers and reveal the incredible blossom hidden within each of our children. Home education isn't perfect or easy, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful family with all of us ~ Joanie

  4. Enjoy your afternoon and weekend! And the beautiful weather! It's suppose to be 94 today, 97 tomorrow and it's just going to get hotter. But with no humidity, it is perfectly wonderful.

I have to second the sweating comment above... Yikes!!!

  5. I'm sure those contractions are just those babies moving around! Make sure you keep hydrated with lots of water! I know on days when I didn't drink as much I felt contractions. Make sure you get your feet up once and awhile too! I can't wait to hear how the appointments go next week! Enjoy your weekend!

  6. When I was pregnant with twins I had contractions nearly every day for the second half of it. Don't worry about them.

But if you notice them coming often, be sure to time them... when I first went into labor, it was contractions and absolutely no pain, and I mistook them for the daily braxton-hicks.

  8. Wow...I just read the 1st comment. Some good stuff there! We always have felt that way also. About sending the kids to school. Our family just doesn't feel right with the boys gone, Ethan almost 8 hours every day. We've been reading some good, books, talking to others, researching...anyway I'll write more about it on my blog. Not on yours! ; )

Our kids get out on the 18th.

Have fun in the nice weather...maybe you could send it our way?!

Can't wait to hear about the baby updates!

I'll say a prayer for you (contractions)...that would stink to be on bed rest....

    Take care,
    Aleah

  9. Hi! I'm so giggling at your blog. I have two boys and we are discussing another which would 98% be a boy as there has only been one girl in like a zillion years in the Huz's family.

Digging the playlist - - -and I'll be back to visit. Shannon

  10. So, do you think you could? Would? Homeschool, that is? What an undertaking . . .

I hope all is well with the twins. Eager to hear how it goes!

    Take care, you!!!
