What's for lunch?!

We've talked about dinner...
we've talked about what we don't eat...
how about what the kids DO eat for lunch!

Yummy yummy cucumber...

and strawberries

and yellow pepper

and grape tomatoes

and Ezekiel bread with almond butter and honey

Mom! I'm eating... don't take my picture!

this is a typical quick lunch for us...
we normally have 3-4 veggies with hummus {not pictured because it's in the middle of the table} 1 fresh or dried fruit
1-2 proteins... today was almond butter and Ezekiel bread.

Ezekiel bread is not a carb because it is made from sprouted grains {no flour}. Which makes it a protein. It is awesome awesome bread! Trader Joes has it, as do many health food stores. It is commonly found in the freezer section.

I'll try to keep taking pictures of our lunches to give you all more ideas... if that is something you all would like?

  5. A friend told me to check out your blog. I think our lives might be very common. We have 5 boys and 1 girl all born within 6 years by the time I was 30. Great to know you are out there. Keep up the great work with the blog. I love to meet others who love God with all their hearts and have great values for their kids. You are doing a great job!

  9. How funny you asked! I was just thinking two days ago that now that I feel like I've got this menu planning and dinner thing figured out (took me long enough) that what I really need help with is with lunches. I rarely can think of lunch items when it's time to make my list and just grab as I go around the store. I'd like that to change so I'd love to hear more ideas.

  10. Yes keep them coming! I now only buy ezekiel bread after reading about it on your blog a couple of months ago!

  19. Looks like a great lunch! My boys would never eat that much for lunch though, they're such light eaters at lunch time. They normally eat a lot at supper time though. Now I'm sure when they get older, that will all change and they'll be eating us out of house and home!

  26. It looks yummy. I used to be a veggitarian {before I got pregnant with my first one}. My hubby was and is a die hard meat and potatoes guy so I converted. For the first year of marriage he cringed at our grocery bill ---- buying my fruits veggies was so much more expensive than his chips and other snack foots. After 4 kids we still have a drawer full of fruits, and a drawer full of veggies but I do buy those 'other' foods.
Good for you... for sticking to it... it is expensive and so many people try to discourage. God Bless.

  27. Yes, keep posting lunch ideas. It's the one meal I get stumped on every day! I love Ezekiel bread, I just wish it wasn't so expensive, so we could indulge more. What kind of hummus do you guys enjoy?

  31. I'd love to see some lunch ideas! I have a 13-month-old, and we do fruits, veggies and bread for lunch and he loves it. I'd like to try hummus out on him, too. We live overseas, so Ezekiel bread may be hard to come by for me. Won't stop me from trying : )

  32. Definitely keep 'em coming! I'm trying to go vegan, as is my 14yo daughter. She has a meat allergy or sensitivity, which has now extended to all meat except fish. Kind of a bummer for a teenager, but I think improved health will make it a blessing. Your ideas help a lot. We already eat hummus and baba ganouj daily, and Trader Joe's is our preferred grocery store. :)

  33. Love your blog and appreciate all of your thoughts and ideas you share with all of us. I'm usually a reader and not a commenter, but figured it was about time I said "Thank You" for sharing such great info., as well as wonderful pictures with all of us. I have a 20-month-old son who I believe is allergic to "enriched" (or so they say) and "bleached" flour. Allergy tests came back negative for a wheat allergy, but through trial and elimination methods, I firmly believe his symptoms must be related to consumption of processed flours. I also have a husband who has Type 1 Diabetes. I am in the process of changing how we eat, one step at a time. Your blog is one of many sources that I use for info and new ideas. Thanks again!

  34. That looks pretty similar to our lunch. Except for the Ezekiel bread. I am going to have to see if I can find it near me. I am all about finding something healthier than regular old whole wheat bread.
My 4 year old doesn't like hummus (weird kid) but my 2 year old will eat it on anything!
    Keep the ideas coming :)
