Ozzie's birth story...

It's been fun recalling the births of all our boys... I'll have no more to share until these babes come. After being on bedrest with Gavin I was slightly worried this time around. My OB checked my cervix every appointment and while i was getting thinner it wasn't alarmingly thin and I glided through this pregnancy with ease. Having never made it past 38 weeks I was getting a little anxious towards the end. I wanted to know WHO was in my belly and I did not want to go past 38 weeks. It was Friday night... I was 37 weeks and 3 days. Paul was working LATE and the boys and I had wonderful dinner of black bean soup & fruit and cookies for desert. We had planned games and read books before bed. I remember tucking the kids into bed and telling Grayson that I might have the baby that night... that he might wake up and Nana would be here. I don't know why I told him that but I did. I wasn't have more contractions than usual and nothing really felt different. I went back downstairs and I sat on the couch and prayed for over an hour. I prayed that I would go into labor, that tonight would be the night we meet our new little one. I prayed for a faster labor and especially for a quicker push time. I went up stairs and got ready for bed. Paul got home around 2am and I got up to go to the bathroom. I realized i was having REALLY HARD contractions. I went back to bed for a while until I knew it was labor. I had just been to the doctor and i wasn't dilated at all... i had been with Grayson and Gavin before i went into labor. I called my mom and she came over... i remember sitting on the couch waiting for Paul to come down and thinking 'oh my gosh' this is getting really bad really fast. After having very long labors i was actually worried this was going too fast. When we got to the hospital I was 9cm. (this seems to be my norm) I asked for an epi again and then we waited.... and waited... 7 hours later I was ready to push. This was my 4th labor and the 4th time the baby was stuck on my pelvic bone. And what do you know... he was face up too. My OB turned him and I started to push... only 30 minutes of pushing and little Ozzie was born. Our 4th perfect amazing little boy. And a much shorter 14 hour labor.

This picture was taken 2 days before I went into labor and the 2 pictures of Ozzie were taken the day we got home from the hospital. He was 2 days old.

  1. He was such a gorgeous baby- as were all your boys. I have long labors too but actually not as long your first three (except for my first). Mine usually last about 15-17 hours- I've been induced with all three of mine. I was 3 1/2 weeks late with my first! Not fun...thanks for sharing all the beautiful birth stories of all your beautiful sons. Looking forward to reading the birth story of your twins! You're doing wonderful- before you know it you'll be holding two,new precious babes...

And I love this picture of you pregnant. It has this sort of rockin'-innocent-goth type of feel to it.

I've enjoyed reading your birth stories and I hope this one goes even faster than Ozzie's.

  5. I'm always amazed at how different every woman's body handles pregnancy and labor.

Seeing those precious pics of Ozzie makes me even more anxious to snuggle with my sister's baby. She was 7cm last time I talked to her. Our other sister had just arrived at the hospital and I've got the phone by my side at all times.

    I'll keep you posted. :)

  6. Well, I am definitely praying I go into labor. My whole family came in town and they all have to leave before next Wednesday. I don't know what I will do with my boys without them here! I would love to just go into labor right now!!

  7. Thanks for sharing your stories with us. What fun to read. Hopefully the little ones in you will know that after 4 long labors mommy needs a relatively easy one this time around. :)

  8. Ahhh, what a cutie pie! Have all your boys been pretty big babies or average? What kind of sleepers are/were they?

  9. My kids have all gotten stuck on my pelvis bone also. Man, it stinks!!

Ozzie is one handsome little guy - and he just keeps getting more and more so.

It's amazing how we mothers just 'know' things. And sometimes it doesn't even make sense! But we just KNOW it! :)
